Primary Elections

The purpose of the primary election is to nominate candidates who will be on the ballot in the general or municipal election.

Pennsylvania has a closed primary, meaning that voters declare their party affiliation and vote only for candidates of that party.

Voters not registered for a party may vote on ballot questions, for government study commission candidates, or in special elections if they are on a primary ballot.

Ballot questions may include proposed constitutional amendments or other measures to be decided by popular vote.

Special elections are held when a vacancy occurs in a local, state, or federal office.

General Elections

General elections are held in even-numbered years and municipal elections are held in odd-numbered years.  Both occur on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November.  All registered voters may participate.

Registration forms and absentee ballot request forms can be obtained at the Township Building or at the Election Bureau.
